Lovely hotel friendly staff good for functions or just a bar meal. rooms are lovely
From the welcoming staff to the quality of the food, you must go to the Great Northern Hotel. Parking on site with courteous parking manager. Coffee shop then into the light and airy restaurant. We had the burger (like no other) with 2 rashers of bacon, fried egg, salad, homemade burger, tomato and cucumber. Handmade relish and a bucket of skinny fries. Followed by a fruit cheesecake. They have their Christmas 2019 brochure out along with the wedding brochure and conference brochure available everywhere. It is well worth a visit.

Afternoon tea. We were put in a dining room on our own so it lacked atmosphere and for some reason there were lots of huge flies, this was in the middle of December! It was a bit off-putting eating with flies trying to get to the food to be honest.The afternoon tea was good with the highlight being the scones which were lovely. Staff were great and gave us tea refills.We have been before when we had it in the lounge bar which was much better as it had a better atmosphere.
Could use a "brighten-up" redecoration as it seemed a bit dark everywhere. Dinner was pretty good and rooms were perfectly ok. Good to see real ales in the bar at not outrageous prices. Breakfast was cooked to order which makes a change from tired serve yourself buffets.
